Copernicium

Description

"The device around it are constantly turning, much like gears. A faint whispering sound can be heard coming from within it somewhere. However, attempting to listen to it and make it out has been rumoured to drive people insane."

"It lives in the shadows, appearing and disappearing without notice. The only way to tell without looking that it's there is the faint whispering sound from the corner of the room. Don't listen to it though."

Lead and Thallium mostly told it to shut up before throwing something at it as they attempted to work.

(Copernicium is a synthetic element with a half life of less than a few seconds for most of its isotopes. This makes it hard to study and scientists can only rely on speculations made by drawing conclusions from relative elements. Being right under mercury on the table, it used to be referred to as "eka-mercury" ("eka-" being a placeholder name until the element was discovered, usually being named after the element right above it. Radon for instance used to be called "eka-xenon"). From that alone we know this is going to end badly. It's also speculated to be incredibly dense, denser than osmium (one of the densest in existence), but would most likely exist in gaseous state. Making it the first metal to exist at room temperature as a gas. Too bad it doesn't live long enough to be that.

The name itself comes after Copernicus, you know the guy that said "What if the Earth rotated around the Sun instead?" to which the Catholic Church replied "Hey what if we set you on fire." )
